New Moor market opened in 2013 and is Sheffield’s brand, spanking new market. This place is a foodie paradise with over 196 stalls of artisan produce.
Take a trip to one of Sheffield’s theatres. Sheffield has the largest theatre complex outside of London. The complex comprises three theatres, The Crucible, The Lyceum and The Crucible Studio. These theatres offer both in house productions and touring shows.
Sheffield City Hall is well worth a visit. The hall hosts some of the most famous names in entertainment, from pop to philharmonic concerts, comedy club to contemporary dance.
If it’s shopping you are after you can shop till you drop in Sheffield’s city centre. Whether it’s clothes, shoes or food, you’ll find it all. Sheffield city centre is split over three focal sections. Fargate, Orchard Square and The Moor - all within a few minutes’ walk of each other.
Fargate: The city’s most central pedestrian precinct offers a wide range of high street stores. And it’s perfectly located - close to the city’s major transport links.
Orchard Square: Just off Fargate is The Orchard Square open-air shopping centre big high street names as well as smaller independent shops.
The Moor: The Moor is one of Sheffield’s oldest and busiest shopping areas. This pedestrianised walkway has shops ranging from big department stores through to nearly 200 independent businesses in The Moor Market which opened in November 2013.
If you are into sport, you’ll feel right at home in Sheffield. Sheffield was the UK’s first national city of sport. Sheffield has world class swimming pools, two major football stadiums, and the English Institute of Sport Sheffield, where top class athletes compete, and every spring, the city hosts the World Snooker Championships at the Crucible Theatre. At Sheffield Hallam, you’ll get to use some of the city’s finest sports facilities, including our international-standard sports park, and even the hockey pitch used in the 2012 Olympic Games.
There are six museums in Sheffield. One of Britain’s largest theatre complexes, and three major art galleries. Sheffield has a thriving art scene, with more artists’ studios than anywhere outside London. If you’re into film, you’ll be spoilt for choice, from the latest blockbuster on the IMAX screen at Cineworld to more art house work at the Showroom, voted one of Britain’s best independent cinemas.
If you are thinking of going out for the evening in Sheffield it is a city that has been long known for its live music and comedy scenes. Sheffield is home to Tramlines, an annual music festival attracting up to 175,000 people and one of the biggest comedy festivals in the country.
