How teeth whitening changed my life!
Sue, Shaftesbury, Dorset
My life was in a real rut. I was approaching 40 and realised my life was going nowhere fast! Friends were very supportive when I would start banging on about how unfair life was and how I was never going to find a man to share my life with. I got fed up with hearing myself droning on and on so my friends definitely must have secretly been fed up with me.
One day Sophie, one of my very good friends, who listened to all my moaning and groaning, asked me if I would like to join her and a group of friends on a teeth whitening session. I had no idea what she was going on about. So she explained to me. They had been in touch with a mobile teeth whitening company and the technician was coming to Sophie’s house will all the equipment. At present there were three other girls going and Sophie and myself would make five. The price of the treatment depended on how many of us there were.
My immediate reaction was to say “no thanks”. That’s just the way I react to anything that might involve me being in the spotlight. Anyway that evening I looked in the mirror and I was really honest with myself. My teeth looked awful. Grey and crooked. I rang Sophie and asked her for more details, she told me to check out the website for Celebrity Smiles. I checked them out and by the end of reading about teeth whitening I was quite excited at the thought of having the procedure done.
I showed up at Sophie’s place about two weeks later and there were four other girls there, two of which I kind of knew. The technician was already there setting up her table. We had to fill out a medical history form and sign a consent form before we could go ahead with the treatment. We decided who was going to go first and it definitely wasn’t going to be me. Sophie went first and we all watched her while it was being done. She had a plastic thing holding her mouth open and the technician Jane moved the laser pen over her teeth and applied some gel now and then. It was all absolutely painless for Sophie. Good. I wasn’t feeling quite so nervous. It was decided I should go third.
It was my turn and by this time I was actually looking forward to it as Sophie’s results were amazing. I was on the table, and it was painless. I couldn’t wait to see the results. The treatment was over and I could look in the mirror. Wow they were certainly whiter. In fact I looked as if I had bigger teeth, and they didn’t look so crooked. The whitening seemed to cover up all the discolouration on my teeth.
I felt a bit self conscious of my teeth for a few days as they seemed so white but after a while I got used to my new look. I decided I needed a new haircut to go with my new teeth, I went for a shorter style and had my hair coloured. The difference it made to me was incredible.
I had been single for four years and had tried internet dating. I had five meet ups with guys online but none of them got past a third date. I asked Sophie to take some photos of me with my new look. I posted the new photos and changed my profile to sound more upbeat and positive. That’s how I felt about myself and I couldn’t wait to see if guys online liked my new look. Well I was certainly getting a positive reaction with the number of guys who gave me a “wink”. Several guys started a conversation with me and it wasn’t long before a couple of them sounded quite interesting. I emailed a guy called Alan and we decided to meet up. I was feeling really confident in a new outfit and my new hair and my dazzling smile.
Well Alan turned out to be a lovely man. We had dinner and by the end of it I decided that Alan wasn’t the man for me. I had never had the confidence to make a decision like that before. I would have carried on seeing Alan just because it would seem better than nothing.
So I stayed online and just kept sifting through profiles, and then one day Ronnie dropped into my in box. Well it wasn’t long before we decided to meet up and immediately I knew I wanted to spend more time with Ronnie. Amazingly he wanted to spend more time with me. We are rarely apart now and it’s been seven months since we got together.
I feel as if my life has completely turned around now. I’m with Ronnie, I feel happier in my job, I have an air of confidence I never had before I had my teeth whitening done. I’m not saying the change in my life was all due to having my teeth whitened, but it was certainly the catalyst which kick started me into doing something to change the rut I was living in.
Sophie’s teeth whitening party was a great idea. The results can last 18-24 months depending on whether you smoke, in which case they won’t last quite as long. I try to avoid food which will stain my teeth now, like red wine and curry My teeth cost me about £39 as there was a group of us, even if you have it done as a single customer it only costs about £90.
My life is so different now I am dating Ronnie. I have a whole new outlook on life. There’s something about looking good that makes you feel so much better inside and it shows on the outside.
And I can smile through clean clear windows without fear.
